Watch: Mark Hamill surprises mega Star Wars fan Adam Scott

This probably would have been an equally big deal for Scott's Parks and Rec character Ben Wyatt.
Author:

Many moons ago, a little boy wrote a letter to his favorite movie star, inviting the icon to his Star Wars-themed birthday party. You can imagine the child's disappointment when his idol didn't show up.

Flash forward a few decades ... that boy is all grown up and he's an actor himself. He's Adam Scott – aka Leslie Knope's boo Ben Wyatt on Parks and Recreation, and more recently Reese Witherspoon's awkward husband on the HBO drama Big Little Lies.

And the star who snubbed his invitation all those years ago? Mark Hamill.

But this story has a happy ending (besides Scott becoming a celebrity). During an interview on Jimmy Kimmel's late night show, guest host Kristen Bell brought up the birthday party. Scott told the story, saying though he was disappointed Hamill didn't show, he understood.

"I knew he must have been incredibly busy. But then, it was, I guess it was–"

That's when Scott was interrupted by Luke Skywalker himself, lightsaber and all.

Check out the giddy look on Scott's face:

Hamill even apologized: "I'm sorry I missed your birthday. I was checking my diary, and that week I had two other birthdays, a bar mitzvah and a supermarket opening ... so."

Scott's response? "This really is one of the best moments of my life."
