Watch: Stephen Colbert's 'Late Show' holds a Minnesota 'Accent Off'

Publish date:

It's not the first time the Minnesota accent has been parodied and we're sure it won't be the last – but as they go, this one from "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" is pretty funny.

The show took advantage of having comedian Maria Bamford – who grew up in Duluth – as one of its guests last week, prompting a skit entitled: "The Accent Off: Minnesota edition."

She went up against "Late Show" writer and Minnesota native Ariel Dumas as they each gave their own take on their home state's distinctive accent.

Each competitor was given an amusing profile – Maria's said she can "de-ice a windshield in less than 20 seconds" while Ariel's said she "knows Joe Mauer's cousin" – and both had an extensive list of their "favorite lakes."

Points were given for local references, with The Mall of America, I-494, meat raffles, hot dish, Caribou Coffee, black ice and "no coats" among those brought up.
