Web Catch: Where'd Jimmy go? Fallon's gory reason for his hiatus

Fans of "The Tonight Show" have had to do without their usual Fallon fix for the past few weeks.

The nightly show has been off the air since late June, when a reported hand injury delayed the show's taping.

CNN money notes that the talk show had already scheduled a two-week hiatus, planned around the Fourth of July holiday.

Jimmy Fallon returned to his "Tonight Show" desk Monday night, where he dished on all the gory details of his 10-day stint in ICU.

The comedian's description of the accident was almost comical. "I tripped and fell in my kitchen on a braided rug that my wife loves – and I can't wait to burn it to the ground."

As he reached out to break his fall, his wedding band became caught on a nearby counter. The resulting injury was something known as "ring avulsion." (We'll let Jimmy describe that one to you.)

Fallon spoke of movie-watching, soul-searching, and gratitude when reflecting on his hospital stay. "This is the meaning of my life," he said. "I belong on TV and I should be talking to people who are watching who are either in an ICU or at home – wherever you are – if anyone's suffering at all, this is my job."

"I'm here to make you laugh, I'm here to make you have a good time."
