What to expect from the new Surly Pizza joint

Surly gave the first taste of its new concoctions at its Destination Brewery on Monday – and we're not talking about beer.

The brewer gave local media the first chance to try out the menu at the new Surly Pizza, on the second floor of the northeast Minneapolis brewery.

Replacing the critically-acclaimed Brewer's Table with more casual fare, the brewery is still aiming upmarket with its "New Haven-style" pizza pies.

This means thin crust, which will be cooked until crispy and charred on the outside.

And, naturally, the pizza crust stands out because its made with dry English ale yeast, of which the brewery has plenty to spare given it's used to make Surly's beer.

The menu features pies named after TV and movies where pizza features prominently, with options including the Spicoli (Fast Times at Ridgemont High) and the Breaking Bad-themed Walter White.

Our favorite name is the Kevin ("A whole cheese pizza, just for me").

It's not just pizza on the menu though, with a raw bar serving East and West Coast oysters as Surly sticks with the New Haven theme, as well as a selection of apps and desserts.
