Your annual reminder that Chris Pratt is from Minnesota

Hollywood couple Chris Pratt and Anna Faris have announced they're separating – and we feel it's only right to remind you all that Pratt is from Minnesota.

Why else would we report on a story about a high-profile Hollywood breakup if there wasn't a local link? We wouldn't. Simple as that.

Pratt was born here but not raised here, and rarely cites Minnesota as his place of birth, but damnit he's one of ours.

The Guardians of the Galaxy and Parks and Recreation star is in the headlines after he and Scary Movie star Faris announced they would be "legally separating" after eight years of marriage.

Their joint social media post has set Hollywood gossipers afire on Monday.

Iron Range blogger Minnesota Brown has some more background on Pratt's Minnesota-ness, noting he was born in Virginia in 1979 at the same hospital where his grandmother was an operating room nurse.

But his family didn't hang around long after that, with Pratt spending the rest of his childhood in Lake Stevens, Washington, before heading for an essentially homeless year in Maui, Hawaii.

What followed has become Hollywood lore. He was discovered by a casting agent, eventually leading to TV roles in Everwood and Parks and Rec.

He is now one of the world's biggest stars thanks to his roles as Starlord in Guardians of the Galaxy and other high-profile roles in The Lego Movie and Jurassic World.

But through it all, he retains one key Minnesota trait:
