The Chris Thile era of A Prairie Home Companion will start with an appearance from Jack White.

The bluegrass musician will host his first recording for the NPR show at The Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul on Saturday, Oct. 15, with The White Stripes rocker the first guest along with LakeStreet Dive, Thile announced on Wednesday.

This will be followed a week later with a show featuring folk group Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats, who will appear on Oct. 22, as will actor and humorist John Hodgman.

The third show in the fall run will feature special guests Esperanza Spalding and Aparna Nancherla.

October 15 will be Thile's first show since taking over as the permanent hosting gig from Garrison Keillor, for whom he had previously stepped in as a guest host prior to Keillor's retirement this summer.

Thile, who is the lead vocalist and mandolinist for The Punch Brothers (formerly with Nickel Creek), is promising "even more guest and tour date announcements" for a Prairie Home, which after the three shows in St. Paul will move on to Philadelphia, Denver and New York.

Tickets for the first three shows can be booked here, and range in price from $33 to $49, not including fees.
