Acclaimed filmmaker Steve McQueen is coming to the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis in November as part of a retrospective featuring his work, the museum announced Wednesday.

McQueen will participate in a Walker Dialogue during the retrospective, which begins 12 days after the release of the director's latest film "12 Years a Slave," which is produced by Minnesota filmmaker Bill Pohlad.

The retrospective begins Oct. 30 with a screening of "12 Years of Slave," runs through Nov. 9, when the British filmmaker will appear at the Walker Dialogue.

Also screening during the retrospective are McQueen's films "Shame" on Nov. 6 and "Hunger" on Nov. 8.

Already winning raves from the likes of The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, "12 Years a Slave" chronicles the true-life story of Solomon Northrup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man in the pre-Civil War Era United States who was abducted from upstate New York and sold into slavery in the deep South.

The film, which screened at the Telluride Film Festival over the weekend, is scheduled to have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival at the festival's Special Presentation category Sept. 6.

One of the three sons of late Twins owner Carl Pohlad, Bill Pohlad is producing "12 Years a Slave" with Brad Pitt, who starred in the Pohlad-produced “Tree of Life.”

"The Tree of Life" earned Pohlad an Oscar nomination for Best Picture as one of the film’s producers.
