$1M-winning Mega Millions ticket sold in Twin Cities
A few days after two Minnesotans won $1 million in the annual New Year's Day Minnesota Millionaire Raffle, another state resident has scooped a seven-figure sum in the Mega Millions.
The winning ticket for the $1 million prize in the Jan. 5 contest was drawn at the Cub Foods in Arden Hills, which has received a $5,000 bonus.
The lucky digits were 20, 43, 51, 55, 57, and Mega Ball 4.
Because of the coronavirus, all contest winners are asked to call ahead to make an appointment in order to pick up their prize at the Minnesota Lottery's office in Roseville.
The upcoming Mega Millions jackpot is estimated at $490 million while the Powerball jacket is estimated at $410 million, Minnesota Lottery executive director Adam Prock said in a press release.
Gambling, like other "sin tax" purchases such as alcohol, has seen an uptick throughout the pandemic, the Star Tribune reported in November.
From July through September 2020, the state's lottery sales increased from the same period in 2019 by 25% to around $181 million, the newspaper reported at the time.
