2 Minnesota breweries make annual 'best looking beer can' list

The latest "coolest beer can" rankings in what has become an annual tradition from a visual marketing agency includes 2 breweries from Minnesota.

Ceros Originals has released its 2019 list of the "best looking" beer cans in the country, with Minneapolis' Fair State Brewing Cooperative and St. Paul's Bad Weather Brewing making the grade.

Bad Weather was included for the design on its Hopcromancer IPA, which features a 70s/80s animated film inspired design by Minneapolis graphic artist Lucas Gluesenkamp.

The artist creates "creates gauzy, dreamscape illustrations with one foot in the supernatural," according to Ceros, and his design for Bad Weather is dubbed: "Lord of the Rings recast for the craft beer crowd."

Fair State's inclusion comes courtesy of its Spirit Foul Hazy IPA, which it launched in late 2017 in collaboration with San Diego brewery, Modern Times Beer.

The inspiration for the design was ultimate frisbee, with Ceros writing: "

`"In the sport, a 'spirit foul' is an infraction that goes against the spirit of the game, if not necessarily the written rules, says Mike Schacherer, the creative director of Little and Co. “That’s why we created a hazy pattern of graphic Frisbees."

Fair State made it onto last year's list for its famous figure-8 can design, with Bauhaus Brew Labs and Big Axe Brewing also making the 2018 list.
