It's official: The 2014 Minnesota Fringe festival is a record hit – but just barely.

Numbers revealed in a press release from Minnesota Fringe say the festival set a new record during the 21st annual event. The festival says 50,226 tickets to 878 performances of 169 different shows were issued during the 2014 event, up from 50,007 tickets to 895 performances of 176 shows during the 2013 event.

“It’s always great when we break through that 50,000 ticket mark, but it’s even better to have a new record," Fringe Executive Director Jeff Larson said in a statement.

This year's Fringe festival ended its 11-day run on Sunday. The festival had a record number of applications, as 476 groups applied to participate in the event, the Pioneer Press said. The performers for the festival were chosen through a lottery.

"Hi! Hello! Namaste?" by the Bollywood Dance Scene – Twin Cities was the top show in overall ticket sales. "Into the Unreal City," by Catalog Models was the No. 1 show by percentage of capacity, selling out 11 shows with a capacity of about 20 audience members for each show, Vita.mn says.

The publication says the festival is still in the process of calculating revenue. Last year's Minnesota Fringe festival earned $365,101 and paid out $245,223 to participating artists.

Organizers say the 22nd annual Minnesota Fringe festival is set for July 30-Aug. 9, 2015.
