After 60 years, Dulono's Pizza in Uptown shuts its doors

The shop will move all operations to a new restaurant in the Warehouse District.

After 60 years of business, one of Minneapolis' most beloved pizza joints shut down its legendary Uptown location.

Dulono's Pizza announced on Facebook Sunday that it's closed the doors on its founding location in the Lyn-Lake neighborhood – effective immediately.

Dulono's has other locations though, and says the shop will move all operations to a new full service bar and restaurant in the Warehouse District.

The move won't affect delivery, which is 62 percent of the business, the post says. And it'll actually be expanded to include parts of northeast and southeast Minneapolis.

Still, it's a big change for Uptown. Dulono's, which is named among Eater's 20 Essential Twin Cities Pizza Restaurants, has been at 607 W Lake St. since 1957. It's one of Minneapolis' oldest pizza restaurants.

"I am not much of a political activist, but if I had any idea that this was in the works I would have chained myself to the bar. The uptown location was one of the few remaining authentic pizzerias in Minneapolis. This is heartbreaking news," one person commented on the post.

Dulono's explained that they didn't have much of a choice.

"For everyone that is understandably upset, this was something that forced on us by the inability to either purchase the property or work out a new lease with the owners," the post says.

"We are making the best decisions that we can with the circumstances that we have been given."

Fans react

As the news of Dulono's closing spreads, people are turning to Twitter to share memories and air their grievances.
