70 degrees possible again this weekend, then our first 80?

Break out your shorts, tank tops and sunscreen.

No worries if you weren't able to get outside and enjoy Monday's 70 degrees, because the rest of the week looks pleasant as can be and then even warmer weather arrives for the weekend.

Here's the forecast high for the Twin Cities metro area Tuesday through Friday:

  • Tuesday: 55-60 degrees
  • Wednesday: 60-65 degrees
  • Thursday: 60-65 degrees
  • Friday: 60-65 degrees

Then it heats up for the weekend, with MPR meteorologist Paul Huttner hinting at mid-70s on Sunday and Monday, with 80 degrees possible at some point next week.

WCCO radio meteorologist Mike Lynch says 80 degrees isn't out of the question as soon as Sunday.

Minneapolis hit 71 degrees on Monday, its first 70-degree day going all the way back to Oct. 20, 2017, more than half a year ago.

The warm weather in the forecast falls in line with what meteorologists were predicting last weekend, with a forecast that called for warm conditions through the first week May before below normal temperatures arrive for the middle weeks of the month.
