A unique Taco Bell restaurant could be coming to the Twin Cities

A local franchisee wants to build an eatery that is more attuned to pandemic life.

A first-of-its-kind Taco Bell restaurant could be set to open in Brooklyn Park.

The city's Planning Commission will discuss on Wednesday an application from Border Foods, a Taco Bell franchisee that already has two locations in the city, to build a new eatery at 5931 94th Street.

However this will be a Taco Bell with a difference, with the franchisee applying to build a Taco Bell "so different that it has never been constructed anywhere before."

The proposed location would be built for the pandemic and post-pandemic age, catering for the "ever-growing demand for drive-thru, app-based ordering, and delivery services" that have boomed during COVID.

According to planning documents submitted to the city, the "experimental" 3,028-square-foot, 2-story Taco Bell would come with four drive-thru lanes.

Now one of these lanes would go around the east of the building for your traditional drive-thru ordering with face-to-face pick-up window interaction, and would also be used by "oversize" vehicles.

But the other three lanes would go underneath the upper floor of the building, and would be designated for diners who submit their orders through the Taco Bell app or via a delivery service.

Above the vehicles is the Taco Bell kitchen, and orders would be seemingly dropped down to waiting drivers via a dumbwaiter system,

The location would offer no dine-in service, but would provide a small space inside for counter ordering.
