After 8 years, Bob Dylan announces first new album of original material

The announcement coincided with another new song release.

Bob Dylan has been busy lately, and now we know what he's been working on: a new album.

But not just any new album; unlike his previous releases over the last several years — which have all been comprised of covers — this one is all original.

Titled "Rough and Rowdy Ways," the new release was announced Thursday on the Minnesota-born songwriter's official website and social media channels.

As a bonus, Dylan also dropped a new track from the album, titled "False Prophet." You can listen to it below:

This comes after the recent surprise releases of two other tracks, "Murder Most Foul" and "I Contain Multitudes," which dropped in March and April, respectively.

"Rough and Rowdy Ways" is the first album of original Dylan material since 2012's "Tempest."

Since then, he's been exploring the Great American Songbook, with one release, 2015's "Shadows in the Night," being an album of Frank Sinatra covers.

"Rough and Rowdy Ways," which will include two discs, drops on June 19.
