After a short hiatus, Barb Abney returns to Twin Cities airwaves with Go 96.3

She was gone, but not for long.

Just weeks after Barb Abney was abruptly dismissed from her 10 a.m.-2 p.m. slot on 89.3 The Current, the popular radio host made her debut on rival station Go 96.3 Monday morning.

And after launching without any on-air staffers, the station – formerly known as K-Twin – moved quickly to poach Abney following her departure from 89.3, handing her the 8 a.m. to noon position.

"I'm super excited to be at something from the beginning," Abney told the Pioneer Press. "It's brand new, the vision is amazing. I've never seen radio done this way before."

The newspaper says that Abney's dismissal from The Current prompted "dozens" of fans to cancel their subscription to The Current's owner, Minnesota Public Radio, and judging by the response on social media today, listeners are glad she is back on Twin Cities airwaves.

The Pohlad family-owned KTWN-FM relaunched last month as Go 96.3, with the Star Tribune noting it is focusing on a modern rock mix similar to The Current.

The station told the Star Tribune it will air three, three-minute ad breaks per hour, and that DJs will have some freedom over what music they play. It will also continue to provide Twins coverage during the baseball season.
