Amazon has followed the example of Target and Best Buy and dropped the minimum purchase requirement for free shipping during the holiday season.
Target announced last month that it would be offering free 2-day shipping without a minimum spending amount up until Dec. 21, with Best Buy making the same offer that's good until Christmas Day.
It laid down a challenge to Amazon, which currently offers free shipping to shoppers when they spend more than $25, or have a $119-a-year Prime membership.
As of Monday, Amazon will drop the $25 minimum purchase requirement for 2-day shipping until Dec. 22, following the lead of its Minneapolis-based rival Target.
Prime members meanwhile will be able to get free same-day delivery on more than three million items, including toys, electronics, home and fashion, over the holidays.
According to the Associated Press, the retailers' other major rival, Walmart, has said it has no plans to scrap the $35 minimum purchase it requires for free 2-day shipping.
