DeeDee, a robot, has joined the staff at Sawatdee Thai Restaurant in Minneapolis and the location in Maple Grove.
The robot is a serve assist robot, and according to a Facebook post from Sawatdee's Maple Grove location, it is the first of its kind operating in Minnesota.
Sawatdee on Tuesday announced its new hire in a Facebook post.
DeeDee can carry food, drinks and dirty dishes, as well as help with takeout orders. According to Sawatdee, DeeDee is a serve assist robot that helps servers do their jobs, making their job easier and providing customers with a better experience. The robot does not replace any human workers, the restaurant said on Facebook.
The restaurant told WCCO DeeDee is designed to automate repetitive manual work so staff can focus on providing customer service.
“With the staffing shortages, ‘DeeDee’ provides an extra hand when we really need it,” Sawatdee Thai Restaurants founder Supenn Harrison told WCCO. “The staff and customers really love her!”
