A new restaurant concept from a James Beard-award winning food author will marry pizza and naan bread in Eden Prairie.

Due to open this fall, Pizza Karma will feature a selection of pies made with a naan crust prepared in a clay-lined Tandoor, topped with a variety of global flavors, spices, meats and vegetables.

It's the brainchild of Chef Raghaven Iyer, the author of several popular cookbooks including The Turmeric Trail: Recipes and Memories from an Indian Childhood, and Indian Cooking Unfolded.

The new restaurant is slated to open this fall at the Lariat Center 1, just off of Joiner Way and just south of the Eden Prairie Center.

Iyer is promising naan-crust pizza creations including a Tandoori Chicken flavor, topped with chicken marinated in Greek yogurt, garlic and freshly ground spices.

Other flavors will include the Pulled Pork Pizza, made with pork in red chili cinnamon paste, while servers at the restaurant – referred to as "Pizza Artists" – can help diners make their own creations.

"We believe in good: good food, good people, good times and doing good. We created Pizza Karma because we saw a void in the market for a memorable pizza with true global flavors and ingredients," Iyer said in the media announcement.

"We believe food is a language we all speak so our goal is to connect people while making a difference in our community," he added, noting that a portion of its proceeds will be donated to local charitable organizations.
