Popular Twin Cities media personality Jason Matheson is returning to FOX 9, where he was a morning show producer and host before leaving the station two years ago.
FOX 9 announced the news Wednesday afternoon, saying Matheson will be a "special entertainment news contributor" when he rejoins the station next month.
Matheson was with FOX 9 from 2000-2013 and helped launch the “FOX 9 Morning Buzz,” among other projects. He left the station in February 2013 to host My Talk 107.1's “Jason and Alexis” morning drive time show.
Matheson returned to TV a year later when he signed on with WCCO-TV, producing entertainment segments on the 5 p.m. news and taped stories for the morning show.
He's now come full circle, and said in the announcement he's "thrilled" about rejoining the FOX 9 team.
“Their energy, spirit and willingness to try new things was always a perfect fit for me," Matheson said. "So to come back and be a part of that team was a no-brainer!”
Matheson wrote a little lengthier explanation on his Facebook page.
"I know right now you're like.. why did you leave 'CCO? Well, you know me, I always try to be direct and give it to you straight.. so, let me tell you.. no drama, no nothing... I'm so grateful for their kindness this year.. I had an amazing time.. but, sometimes life presents an opportunity and you have to take it. Plus, to work once again with the folks that were my family for 14 years, is something you can't say 'no' to!"
Star Tribune columnist C.J. writes that WCCO is preparing to launch its own 9 a.m. show to compete with the "Buzz" on FOX 9, although that's not been confirmed.
Matheson said he'll continue his morning show on My Talk 107.1 even after he moves back to FOX 9.
