Bar in Hudson closes abruptly after five years

Stone Tap made the announcement on Thursday.

Hudson's main drag lost a gastropub this week, when the Stone Tap announced its abrupt closure.

The bar and restaurant announced this past Monday that it had shut its doors for good, with the owners writing they're "extremely sad" to make the decision to close after almost 5 years in business.

"Unfortunately the time has come for us to move on and give someone else a chance at operating their dream Restaurant or business in beautiful downtown Hudson, WI," it said.

"Our staff has been incredible and through many hardships and changes, we still appreciate everything our employees over the years have done for us."

The bar had built up a following with its selection of locally-crafted beers, with this Pioneer Press review from 2013 praising it for its "phenomenal" beer list, though noted its food could have used some tweaks.

It comes at a time where a few restaurants have been struggling, particularly in the eastern Twin Cities metro.

St. Paul has seen three notable restaurants announce their closures in recent weeks: Ward 6, The Muddy Pig and Fabulous Fern's, with all blaming their struggles on tight financial margins.
