The bar chain opened in Uptown in 2012.

Bar Louie is no more in Uptown.

The bar closed abruptly on Tuesday, the first rumblings about which started to appear on social media that afternoon as staff members revealed they'd just been told the news.

The Twin Cities Eater then spoke to someone still at the bar on Tuesday who confirmed the news.

Bar Louie, the party spot known for its large patio at 1348 Lagoon, has occupied its prominent Uptown location in the MoZaic building since 2012.

The bar is part of a national chain of the same name, with another location opening up at the Ridgedale Mall in Minnetonka, in the space of a former Applebee's, in 2013.

That bar closed down last month.

In statement to BMTN, Bar Louie said: "Unfortunately, our franchised Bar Louie Uptown and Bar Louie Ridgedale locations were not thriving at their Minneapolis and Minnetonka locations, and the franchisee has chosen to close them as of April 4, 2018 (Minnetonka) and May 15, 2018 (Minneapolis).

"As a company, we are sad about this turn of events with our franchisee and to be leaving these Minnesota communities. We are always seeking growth opportunities and look forward to the day when we can return to the area."

Judging by the reaction on social media, there aren't too many mourning Bar Louie's passing.

The bar hit the headlines for unwanted reasons in June 2017 when a fight outside led to a shooting that left a man paralyzed.

Its rating on Yelp is 2.5, with opinion split on the place.

One reviewer says "drinks are meh and service is laggard and snail-like, but it's a sweet patio with space for big groups," before likening it to a "stupid phone game you just can't stop playing."

The most recent review is by someone apparently bummed it's closed, blaming "picky a-holes" who went into the bar with unrealistic expectations.
