Billy Crystal wears Bemidji company's sweater at 'Monsters University' premiere
Perhaps Billy Crystal will have to take a trip to Bemidji to go shop for some fall clothing when he comes to perform in Minnesota in October.
The Bemidi Pioneer reports that Crystal wore a Bemidji Woolen Mills sweater to the premiere last week of his hit Disney-Pixar movie "Monsters University." The college letter-style sweater was personalized with a "Monsters University" insignia.
The company manufactures the navy-colored sweater, which comes with three white stripes on the left elbow.
According to the Pioneer, the sweater came to Crystal via the Varsity Room, a retailer in Solana Beach, Calif., that sells Bemidji Woolen Mills products.
The owner of the Varsity Room tells the paper that he got a call from Disney-Pixar a while back for about 30 of the sweaters for the premiere, and then got a follow-up call a couple weeks later for one more sweater, which as it turns out, was for Crystal.
A prequel to the 2001 hit "Monsters Inc.," "Monsters University" introduces us to monsters Mike Wazowski (voice of Crystal) and Sulley (voice of John Goodman) in the college days, before they become "Scarers." The film debuted at No. 1 at the North American box office over the weekend with more than $82 million in ticket sales.
"Monsters University" is executive produced by Bloomington native Pete Docter, the director of "Monsters Inc." and Oscar-winning director of "Up."
Crystal, meanwhile, is scheduled to perform his acclaimed one-man play "700 Sundays" at the State Theater Oct. 22-26, a pre-Broadway run in preparation for the production's return to New York City for one final set of performances that begin in November.
