Bird time's a charm for Loring Park restaurant spot as yet another concept prepares to open

A restaurant spot in Minneapolis' Loring Park neighborhood is about to reopen as its third incarnation as the start of the year.

The unit at 1612 Harmon Place started the year as The Third Bird, which it had been since opening in 2014, before shutting down in January and opening just a few days later as casual arcade concept called Bearcat Bar.

That venture was short-lived and closed just over a month later, but now owner and Twin Cities restaurateur Kim Bartmann has announced the venue will open again this Thursday under yet another name, Early Bird.

On Twitter, Bartmann gave diners a sneak peak at the menu for what will initially be a breakfast and lunch joint opening from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Whereas the Third Bird was noted for its extensive tap list, featuring more prominently on the Early Bird breakfast menu are its non-alcoholic offerings.

"The menu is a modern California style with juices, smoothies and vegetable forward dishes," Bartmann told the Business Journal. " We'll also have meat dishes like a chicken sandwich or a fried bologna sandwich."

Before the closure of Bearcat, Bartmann told the website she thought she'd sold the building only for the deal to fall through. This prompted the decision to re-open as a breakfast and lunch joint, with the Barbette and Bryant Lake Bowl owner saying diners can expect a warmer atmosphere.

This warmer atmosphere, judging by a Bartmann tweet from earlier this week, means vintage lunch boxes on the wall.

CityPages is particularly pleased that the fried Bologna sandwich, which it says was one of the biggest successes of Bearcat in its short time at Loring Park, has made the Early Bird menu.
