Another award may be in the offing for Minnesota music legend Bob Dylan, the Star Tribune reports.

Dylan, whose nomination to receive the Legion d'Honneur -- the highest award in France -- was tossed, is now being considered for the country's Legion Chevalier rank.

According to a statement issued by French Grand Chancellor Jean-Louis Georgelin to the paper Le Monde, Dylan is a "tremendous singer and great poet" and an "exceptional artist."

Georgelin wouldn't comment on the Legion d-Honneur snub. But according to the Star Tribune, French media outlets have been speculating it was because of Dylan's opposition to the Vietnam War, and possibly pot smoking.

Previous Chevalier honorees include Gen. George S. Patton, musician Miles Davis, author Toni Morrison, and actors Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Jerry Lewis.

Word of the potential honor comes after Dylan received the Presidential Medal of Freedom -- the highest civilian award in the U.S. -- last year, and induction into the U.S. Academy of Arts and Letters last month.

Meanwhile, Dylan is getting ready to embark on his "AmericanaramA" Festival of Music tour later this month-- which will make local stops at Bayfront Festival Park in Duluth July 9 and Midway Stadium in St. Paul July 10.
