Bob Newhart announces Twin Cities comedy gig
Entertainment icon Bob Newhart is bringing his classic brand of comedy to the Twin Cities, the Hennepin Theatre Trust announced Tuesday.
Newhart, 83, will play the State Theatre in Minneapolis Nov. 22. Tickets are $48.50 to $58.50 and go on sale Friday at 11 a.m.
The announcement of the gig comes on the heels of Newhart accepting an Icon Award from the Broadcast Television Journalist's Association Awards last week.
Newhart's previous honors include the Mark Twain Prize for Comedy in 2002 and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1999.
The actor starred in two successful shows on CBS: "The Bob Newhart Show," from 1972 to 1978; and "Newhart," from 1982 to 1990.
Newhart, who is ranked at No. 14 on Comedy Central's list of 100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time, also starred in such films as "Catch-22" and "Elf."
The Hennepin Theatre Trust also announced Tuesday that blues guitarist Johnny Lang will play the State Theatre Sept. 18; and the singing group The Manhattan Transfer will be bringing their Christmas Show to the Pantages Theatre Dec. 11.
Tickets for both shows also go on sale Friday: Lang at 10 a.m. and The Manhattan Transfer at 12 p.m.
