Brian Oake, a longtime staple of Twin Cities radio, says he is leaving Cities 97.

Oake sent the above tweet Friday morning – but didn't provide any other details about what might be next for him. He currently does the Oake and Keri morning show, with co-host Keri Noble.

In an emotional update on the air shortly after 8 a.m., Oake clarified that he's leaving on his own terms, and said the decision isn't one he took lightly after 14.5 "incredible" years.

What's next?

Neither said, but Noble said he has "great opportunities."

Oake said he's not 100 percent sure it's the right move – but knew if he didn't try it, he'd look back and wonder what could have happened.

"Change is part of what we do, it's part of what we have to do," Oake said, adding the "hardest part" about leaving is saying goodbye to the show with Noble, who helped him "fall in love with radio again."

Said Noble: "There will never be another Brian Oake."

He took over morning show duties at the station in 2012, the Pioneer Press reported.

Oake has previously worked at Rev105 and Zone 105, and is a regular guest on the sports-talk channel KFAN.

Social media was abuzz with the news.
