C-A-M- ... wait, how do you spell that word again?

Spelling can be hard. And we all have some words that trip us up.

Me for example, I always have problems with words that have possible double sets of consonants. Is it broccoli or broccolli? Massachussetts or Massachusetts? ("Barrel" I manage to get right on the first try now, so that's a small victory.)

That's right, the word that generally means something like, "A surface designed to blend into the background or environment."

Iheartdna took all the different spellings from her high-schoolers, grouped the same ones together then made that above pie chart. She posted it to the subreddit /r/dataisbeautiful, where it got more than 3,000 comments. And yes, many were realizing they weren't 100 percent confident how to spell that word.

It even inspired another user to post a different visualization of the data, breaking down each "decision point" in the spelling, the user explains.

According to Merriam Webster, that word comes from a French term that had its first known use in 1916.

So there you go. If you aren't totally sure how to spell it, you could probably blend in (YEEEEAAAHHH!) with this class of ninth-graders.
