Candyland – the store behind the original Chicago Mix popcorn – has closed one of its Minneapolis locations.
After 37 years, Candyland announced its store near 8th Street and LaSalle Avenue in Minneapolis will close on Friday. However, its locations on 7th Street in Minneapolis, as well as its original location in St. Paul and Stillwater, will remain open. Customers can also order sweet treats online.
"The decision to indefinitely close our Minneapolis 8th Street location was not an easy one to say the least," Brandon Lamb of Candyland told BMTN. "Over the past few years, we've been seeing an economic downturn in Downtown Minneapolis and now with majority of downtown's workforce working from home, we foresee a deep hole to climb out of that cannot sustain having two locations in close proximity of one another."
This closure comes as a slew of other businesses call it quits or layoff workers, most of them blaming the COVID-19 pandemic. You can find a running list of restaurants that have closed since mid-March here.
