Can't wait for 'Force Awakens'? There's a 'Star Wars Celebration' in Mpls

A long time ago, in a pair of cities not far away...

"Star Wars" dominated local airwaves with advertising, promotional segments, and TV interviews featuring the original cast members, and it's all coming back – to a theater near you (if you live in the metro, of course).

The Parkway Theater in Minneapolis will hold a "Star Wars Celebration" on Thursday night, a week before the debut of the latest chapter in the classic space saga, "The Force Awakens." It's a 90-minute show giving fans a "nostalgic look back to the early days" of the franchise, according to a news release received by BringMeTheNews.

The event is organized by TCMediaNow, a non-profit "dedicated to preserving Twin Cities based film and video" in a "vast library" containing news, commercials and entertainment broadcast by local media outlets, its website says.

The event's website indicates they're reaching deep into the archives to pull out "rare interviews" with Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher, who sat down with WCCO and KARE in 1977.

The presentation will also feature TV spots from the "first wave" of Star Wars advertising in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as the now-legendary (and legendarily bad) "Star Wars Holiday Special." The CBS was so critically panned George Lucas famously said "if I had the time and a sledgehammer, I would track down every copy of that show and smash it.”

Watch a pensive Harrison Ford talk about his experiences as an actor with WCCO's Bill Carlson in 1977:

The show begins at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 10.
