Chipotle bringing Cultivate Music Festival, top chefs to Minneapolis

The restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill is getting ready to spice up Minneapolis this summer with its annual music festival, the Business Journal reports.

The Cultivate Music Festival, slated for Aug. 23 in Loring Park, will feature five bands, as well as renowned chef demonstrations, artisan food, craft beer and wine.

Admission to the event is free. Cultivate music festivals in other cities have drawn crowds anywhere from 25,000 to 40,000 people, a festival spokesman said.

According to the festival's Facebook page, Chipotle has also picked San Francisco and Dallas-Fort Worth to host its other Cultivate festivals this year.

The Business Journal says the music lineup for the Minneapolis Festival includes Portugal, The Man, Grouplove, The Mowgli's, Vintage Trouble and Hunter Hunted.

Twin Cities-based chef and "Bizarre Foods" host Andrew Zimmern is among the food talent who will participate in the festival, as well as Jamie Malone of Sea Change and Jack Riebel, formerly of Butcher and Boar.

Chipotle is also using the festival as a way to educate consumers about genetically modified organisms, animal welfare and processed foods.

“We are changing the way people think about and eat fast food, and that includes helping people understand more about how food is raised and prepared,” Chipotle Chief Marketing and Development Officer Mark Crumpackerat said in a press release. “The Cultivate events allow us to bring people together for a celebration of food and music, but also to educate them about how food can be raised responsibly.”
