Minneapolis natives Joel and Ethan Coen's "Inside Llewyn Davis," a music tale set amid the 1960's folk scene, is one of the films in competition at the 66th Cannes Film Festival, Variety reports.

The Coens last competed in Cannes in 2007 with the crime thriller "No Country For Old Men," which went on to win Oscars for the sibling filmmakers for Best Director and Best Picture as the film's producers (along with Scott Rudin).

"Inside Llewyn Davis," is one of 19 films featured in the competition at the festival, which will take place in the South of France May 15-26. Filmmaker Steven Spielberg is heading up the jury, which will award the festival's top prize, the Palme d'Or.

The film follows an aspiring singer-songwriter (Oscar Isaac) during the 1960s in New York City’s Greenwich Village. The Coens wrote, directed and produced the film, which also stars Justin Timberlake, John Goodman and Carey Mulligan.

"Inside Llewyn Davis" also stars Roseau, Minn. native Garrett Hedlund ("Tron: Legacy") and Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham (“Amadeus”).

Some of the exteriors of "Inside Llewyn Davis" were shot in Medford, Minn., near Faribault.

While part of the Cannes Film Festival is celebratory, it is also a place where filmmakers showcase their projects to be considered for distribution.

"Inside Llewyn Davis," however, has already been purchased for distribution by CBS Films. It does not yet have a U.S. release date.

The festival is opening with director Baz Luhrmann's remake of "The Great Gatsby," adapted from St. Paul literary legend F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel.
