Comedian Bill Maher announced for the State Theatre in August

Comedian and talk show host Bill Maher is heading to Minneapolis for a show at the State Theatre this August.

The star os HBO's "Real Time" will take to the stage at the Hennepin Avenue theater on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Known for his unflinching, sometimes controversial takes on the topics of the day, Maher has been a mainstay on television since launching "Politically Incorrect" on Comedy Central and later ABC, which ran between 1993 and 2002.

Since then, he has been presenting "Real Time" on HBO, welcoming guests including former President Barack Obama.

During his glittering career, Maher has garnered 41 Emmy nominations.

Tickets for his show will go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m, at the State Theatre box office. They can also be bought over the phone at 800-982-2787, or online at HennepinTheatreTrust.org.

Tickets will cost $63.50, $83.50 or $129, along with a $4 building and restoration fee.
