It's not every day that a filmmaker comes calling in Minnesota for auditions for a key role in a movie with Bradley Cooper, so it shouldn't come as a big surprise that the response was huge.

WCCO-TV reports that more than 100 boys ages 8 to 10 lined up at Benilde-St. Margaret's School in St. Louis Park Tuesday for a chance to audition for Oscar-winning filmmaker Cameron Crowe's upcoming film.

The eventual winner of the role will play a kid obsessed with videotaping everything he sees, who also has a fascination with the Hawaiian culture.

The untitled romantic comedy -- which stars Cooper, Emma Stone and Rachel McAdams --will begin shooting in Hawaii in the fall.

Casting director Debbie Delisi told WCCO that the "kid needs to be a really smart, gifted kid. He’s a little filmmaker and so, there’s so many smart kids in Minneapolis."

The kids that fared best in the auditions will be called back for a script reading on Thursday, the station says.

According to DeLisi, the production already tried filling the role after auditions with professional child actors, but the auditions didn't pan out. If the Minneapolis casting session doesn't prove fruitful, the casting director says she will look for smart kids in New York.
