'Dateline' episode will explore Minnesota woman's unsolved murder
The new episode of "Dateline NBC" that airs Friday will feature a two-hour episode detailing the 2015 killing of a Brewster, Minnesota, woman.
On Aug. 19, 2015, 40-year-old Jan Pigman-Kruse was fatally shot in the chest while in her bed in her home in Nobles County. Her husband and teenage daughter were home.
The episode, titled "Far from Spider Lake" airs at 8 p.m. Friday on NBC. In a promo video for the episode, "Dateline" notes after Pigman-Kruse was shot, her husband checked on their daughter and called 911.
When police arrived, they found two shotgun shells outside the bedroom door. There was a broken window downstairs, but no footprints inside, the video says. And nothing was taken from the house, indicating Pigman-Kruse was targeted – but by whom has remained a mystery for five years.
In March 2019, Christopher Kruse, Pigman-Kruse's husband, was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder and was arrested in connection to his wife's death. Earlier this year, a jury found him not guilty, acquitting him on first- and second-degree murder charges, The Globe reported.
According to a news release from Kohlmeyer Hagen Law Office, which defended Christopher Kruse, the episode will feature interviews with him, their son Isaac, and other family members.
"From a dead sleep, you get woken up by gunshots and you look over and see your wife is bleeding," says Chris's attorney, Tom Hagen.
Robbery was ruled out by the investigative team, and Chris Kruse became a person of interest in the case, the release said, noting he denied ever knowing who shot his wife.
The episode detail the investigation into Pigman-Kruse's death and explore details from Chris Kruse's trial, the release notes.
