Drive-thru holiday lights coming to the State Fairgrounds
A drive-thru holiday light show with more than 1 million lights is coming to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds this season.
It's called the GLOW Holiday Festival, and it'll run for 46 consecutive nights from Nov. 19 through Jan. 3.
This "Great Minnesota Holiday Get-Together" will feature a one-mile route through the fairgrounds, which will be decked out with more than 1 million lights, a 100-foot illuminated tree, icicle and art installations, a gingerbread house, and other attractions, a news release says.
And what would a trip to the State Fairgrounds be without some State Fair food? After driving through the event, people will have the chance to buy a selection of Fair food favorites (no details on what will be available, though), the release notes.
Tickets go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. on Oct. 22 (there's a presale starting Tuesday with the code GLOW). It's $46 per vehicle and when you're buying a ticket, you'll select a date and time (it's timed for every 15 minutes, with the drive-thru taking about 40 minutes). You can buy tickets online here.
The hours for the event are 4:30-9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 4:30-10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Each night of the event will benefit a different community organization, with nonprofits receiving $2 from each ticket sold on their designated night. The GLOW Holiday Festival will also mark different holidays, cultures and traditions with several special nights, including Amity Night, Latinx Night, Hanukkah Night, Indigenous Peoples Night and Kwanzaa Night.
The event is being put on by Twin Cities event promoter Randy Levy of Rose Presents. It bought GLOW Nashville, a similar event put on last year, to bring it to Minnesota and add some local flare, like Purple Lane, Lil Farmstead, the Wagon Wheel stage and the GLOW Disco Party.
