Easily-explained Minnesota UFO sighting somehow becomes viral hit

It's been shared thousands of times, but it's really no mystery.

Let's just save you the suspense on this: The lights above come from Mystic Lake Casino.

Anyone who has spent any time in the Prior Lake area after sunset will know this, as will anyone who Googles "weird lights over Prior Lake," but the origin of the lights still remain a mystery to some.

Maybe it's because we're getting closer to Halloween, but the man who took the below footage of the lights from a Walmart in Shakopee does a pretty good job of sounding spooked by the floating specter.

"That is the weirdest thing I've ever seen," he says. "It's not moving it's sitting perfectly still, right above the clouds. It's the weirdest thing."

As the Prior Lake American notes, the lights from the casino are regularly mistaken for UFOs, particularly on nights when the cloud deck is "unusually high," which can cause the lights to be seen from surprising distances – Shakopee, for example.

The video seems to have first been shared on YouTube earlier this month by UFOVNI, which identified the cameraman as Shaun Davis.

It didn't attract much interest at the time, garnering fewer than 1,000 views.

But the video has now become the focus of much larger attention thanks to it being shared on Facebook by ViralHog on Friday, gaining almost 150,000 views.

It was then picked up and re-packaged by Story Time under the not-so-subtle title "ALIENS WALK AMONG US," getting another 210,000 views as of Monday evening on Facebook.

But while some people clearly want to believe, the comment threads on both videos are littered with Minnesotans, who are on hand to shatter any hope of this being a close encounter with the third kind.
