Eating at Chipotle Wednesday will help feed other people, too

They'll donate half of what you spend to hunger relief

When we duck into a Chipotle it's usually our own hunger that we're thinking about.

On Wednesday, though, buying a burrito or tacos there can help fight hunger all over your town.

All the Chipotle locations in Minnesota and North Dakota are partnering with two groups that operate food banks: Second Harvest Heartland and Feeding America.

If you ask them to, Chipotle will donate half the proceeds from your purchase to help feed people in your area who don't have enough to eat.

All you have to do when you order is tell the cashier you want to support Second Harvest Heartland – or just show them this flyer on your phone:

Fighting hunger

Second Harvest Heartland was formed in 2001 when separate groups in Minneapolis and St. Paul joined forces. Last year they delivered more than 80 million meals to food shelves in 59 counties of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, the group says.

Feeding America is a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks that includes Second Harvest Heartland. They've got food banks in every state and you can look up the one closest to you

In Minnesota, one out of every 10 people does not have enough to eat, Second Harvest Heartland says.

One-third of those people are children. Some are adults working in low-paying jobs. Seniors on fixed incomes are the fastest-growing group using food shelves, they say.
