What's better than a cold beer or a classy cocktail? A cheap, cold beer and classy cocktail.

If you're heading into downtown Minneapolis for a day/night out, you'll usually find it's a little pricier than other hotspots in the Twin Cities.

But if you get there at the right time, you could save a bundle, which is why we've scoured the best of what downtown drinking has to offer to find some top-value happy hours.

Some of the bars included below don't necessarily have the cheapest drink offers, but get points for running happy hour deals at weekends or evenings, or offering a decent deal on cocktails.

Bar Zia

When: Weekdays 3-6 p.m. and 10 p.m.-midnight.

Where: 420 4th Street South.

What: 2 for 1 on selection of bottled and draft beers.

Brothers Bar and Grill

When: Weekdays 3-8 p.m., Saturday 2-8 p.m.; Late night Happy Hour 8-10 p.m. Saturday.

Where: 430 1st Avenue North.

What: 2 for 1 on most drinks, $2 cheeseburgers on weekdays 4-7 p.m., Saturday night happy hour includes $3 taps, rails and fireball shots and $4 Vodbulls. Daily drink specials can be found here.

Cowboy Jack's

When: Weekdays 3-6 p.m., Monday-Thursday 10 p.m.-midnight.

Where: 126 North 5th Street

What: $2 rail drinks and tap and bottled beer, $4 house wines, 1/2 off appetizers and flatbreads. Weekend specials include bottomless Bloody Marys.

Crooked Pint Ale House

When: Daily 3-6 p.m., 9 p.m.-close.

Where: 501 Washington Avenue South

What: $4 rails, $3.50 domestic bottles, $3.75 Summit and Grain Belt, $1.50 off all wine, $1 off all taps.

Gluek's Restaurant & Bar

When: Weekdays 2-6 p.m.

Where: 16 North 6th Street.

What: $2 jello shots, $4.50 16oz draft beers, well cocktails and wine. $0.50 wings (each).

Hell's Kitchen

When: Daily 3-6 p.m.

Where: 80 South 9th Street.

What: A $2 "mystery beer," $4 tap beers, $4.50 rail drinks, $5 house wine and $6.99 signature cocktails.

Kieran's Irish Pub

When: Daily 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

Where: 85 North 6th Street.

What: $2 off draft beers and signature cocktails.

Lyon's Pub

When: Weekdays 3-6 p.m.

Where: 16 South 6th Street

What: $4 all rails, $4 domestic drafts, $5 wine, $4-$7 appetizers.

Mercy Bar and Dining Room

When: Daily 3-6 p.m.

Where: 901 Hennepin Avenue.

What: $5 craft beer, cider, wine and spirits, $6 Sangria and Schrodinger's Cup. $2-$12 snacks.

The Newsroom

When: Weekdays 3:30-6:30 p.m.; Sunday 9 p.m.-midnight.

Where: 990 Nicollet Mall

What: $4.50 draft beers, wine and rail liquors. On Sundays, $5-$7 beers and $6 martinis.

The Pourhouse

When: Weekdays 3-6 p.m.

Where: 10 South 5th Street.

What: 2 for 1 cocktails and 1/2 price apps. Daily specials include $2 drafts and rails on Tuesdays, $4.95 pitchers on Thursday and a $12 bottomless cup on Friday nights 7-10 p.m.

Randle's Bar and Restaurant

When: Weekdays 2-6 p.m.

Where: 921 Nicollet Avenue.

What: $3 tallboys, $4 drafts and well cocktails, $5 wine and margaritas, $6 cocktails, $3-$6 appetizers.

Union Bar and Grill

When: Weekdays 3-6 p.m.; weekends 11a.m.-6 p.m.

Where: 731 Hennepin Avenue.

What: $4 tallboys, $5 craft beer, $6 wine and martinis, $4-$7 appetizers.

Upstairs Circus

When: Tuesday-Friday, 3-6 p.m.

Where: 125 North Washington Avenue (technically North Loop)
