Fire crews were called to an unusual rescue on Wednesday evening, when someone reported two horses stuck in a swamp.
The call came in around 6 p.m., with the afflicted animals stuck at Wayside Prairie Park in rural Bradford Township, west of Isanti.
Because they were stuck in a remote area, the Isanti Fire District notes that crews had to "improvise" and use wide straps to get under the animals.
They then used some "good old fashioned muscle to help pull them to some more solid ground."
"We are happy to report that both horses and the owners, though visibly exhausted were happy to be out of the swamp and able to walk back to the solid ground on their own!" the fire department added.
Help was provided by the Isanti County Safety and Rescue, as well as a number of "good neighbors" who assisted with the rescue.
"We are lucky to have so many horse lovers around our community that are willing to help out!"
