First Avenue calls off inaugural outdoor music festival

First Avenue in Minneapolis is keeping its music indoors this summer.

The Star Tribune reports that the venue, which had planned an outdoor music festival for July 20 at Parade Athletic Fields near downtown Minneapolis, has now pulled the plug on the idea.

First Avenue general manager Nate Krantz told the paper that the club had a lineup for the outdoor festival "ready to go," but then, "over the course of three days our two biggest acts dropped out."

The venue also noted in a press release, "For our inaugural fest we hope to create an event that lives up to the high standards of First Avenue. If we had moved forward this year that would not have been possible."

The postponement of the First Ave. event marks the second time this year an outdoor festival has fallen by the wayside in the Twin Cities.

In January, Live Nation put the two-day River's Edge Music Festival on St. Paul's Harriet Island on hiatus, reportedly over expenses and lack of artist availability.

The inaugural River's Edge Music Festival last June featured the Dave Matthews Band and Tool as the headline acts.
