First Avenue's annual Best New Bands showcase announces 2017 lineup

Go 96.3's Jordan will help host this night of sterling local talent.

First Avenue's local music showcase Best New Bands serves as annual temperature test for the hottest in Minnesota music. The just-announced lineup for 2017 is packed with noteworthy names.

Go 95.3 fans should be familiar with Go Show alum Dwynell Roland, who rocked a opening set for Machine Gun Kelly at Myth earlier this year.

Joining Roland on the bill will be femme-fronted indie punks Sass, pop prodigies Early Eyes, rowdy garage rockers The Bad Man, soulful diva Lady Lark, buzzing singer-songwriter Thomas Abban, and surf punks Blaha.

Go Radio DJ Jordan is also slated to host, along with representatives from 89.3 the Current and KUOM Radio K.

First Avenue's staff select each year's crop of bands with input from local music tastemakers, and the landmark nightclub's choices have proven to be a reliable bellwether of future success.

Best New Bands alumni include Go 96.3 favorites Hippo Campus, psychedelic outfit Night Moves, hip-hop/R&B phenom Lexi Alijai, and Yeezy-cosigned rapper Allan Kingdom.

Best New Bands 2017 will take place in the First Avenue mainroom on Friday, January 5 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available through First Avenue's website
