Former Vikings HQ to become a Life Time soccer haven for children

The fitness chain is taking over Winter Park in Eden Prairie.

What was formerly the home of Vikings football will become a massive center for children's soccer.

Life Time announced this week that it will be opening its latest Life Time Sport at Winter Park in Eden Prairie sometime this fall.

What was the Minnesota Vikings' headquarters and training campus will be renovated by Life Time, with indoor and outdoor football fields split up into smaller, short-sided soccer fields.

The Vikings this year moved over to their new, state-of-the-art practice facility in Eagan, and Life Time saw an opportunity to continue the sporting tradition at Winter Park, albeit with European football.

Life Time Sport offers a "no-pressure, fun environment" for children, running 10-minute pick-up scrimmage games observed by certified coach/referees who will "guide and motivate players."

Children will be divided by age and ability, and playing on the short-sided pitches will give them more touches on the ball.

It will be the second Life Time Sport in the Twin Cities metro, with the first having recently opened in Lakeville.

The Winter Park facility will see 6-8 soccer fields created indoors, capable of handling 60-80 players, and 12-16 pitches outdoors for 120-160 kids.

There will also be a viewing area and lounge rooms with TVs for parents, as well as a cardio and weight room.

You can add your kids to the waitlist to play at Winter Park here. It is expected to offer drop-in day passes as well as monthly memberships.

The question is how long Life Time Sport will operate from the facility, with the Vikings Chief Operating Office Kevin Warren saying: "We are excited to know Winter Park will be filled with fun through Life Time Sport while we continue to evaluate the long-term redevelopment plans for the property."
