Fortune names Minneapolis police chief among world's 50 greatest leaders – ahead of Joe Biden

She's ahead of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau too.

Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau made Fortune magazine's list of the World's 50 Greatest Leaders alongside Pope Francis and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

She comes in at number 22, beating former vice president Joe Biden by one spot.

This is a list that extends far beyond politics. There are athletes, business leaders, filmmakers, and philanthropists. The top spot goes to baseball exec Theo Epstein, who helped engineer the Chicago Cubs' first World Series victory in 108 years.

Why did Harteau make the cut?

Well, Fortune explains that she's been through a lot over the past 18 months – like growing tension with the police union, a spike in crime, and everything surrounding the Jamar Clark shooting.

"Harteau weathered these woes with the steadiness that has made her a leadership role model," the Fortune piece says.

On top of that, she's a 30-year veteran and the city’s first female and first gay police chief.

Fortune also notes, "Harteau is the mind behind MPD 2.0, a drive to build trust in the community by putting more cops on the beat."

Minneapolis was one of the few major U.S. cities to report a significant drop in homicides in 2016. From 2015, they were down 26 percent.

You can see Fortune's article and full list here. FYI, current U.S. President Donald Trump did not make the list.
