The opening date and a handful of vendors have been announced for another food hall that's due to open in the Minneapolis North Loop.
Called the North Loop Galley, the 8,000-square-foot food hall will open on Dec. 16 in The Nordic, the new mixed-used development from United Properties at 729 Washington Ave North.
Its opening comes after another food hall, Graze, opened just a few blocks away this summer, amid a wider food hall trend that has seen them open at Rosedale Center and the former Schmidt Brewery in St. Paul, not to mention the planned food hall inside the revamped Dayton's building in downtown Minneapolis.
But the North Loop Galley, operated by Pittsburgh's Galley Group, offers a twist on the usual food hall concept in that the food vendors are only in situ for a year.
Galley Group's food halls serve as testing grounds for aspiring food businesses, giving chefs 12 months to hone their craft and build a name, before leaving hopefully to open their own permanent location.
Four new eateries announced for the North Loop Gallery are as follows:
- Soul-Fu: Southeastern Asian Cuisine
- Wrecktangle Pizza: Described as "Detroit Style Pizza through a Minnesota lens."
- Thigh Times Birdhouse: The Original Chicken Wrib
- Ono Hawaiian Plates: Hawaiian-style food, "one plate at a time."
"As owners, Galley Group not only offers chefs the space to bring their concepts to market, but also provides front of house staff, marketing and public relations, overhead equipment and business strategy support," the company said.
As well as the four full-service restaurants and seating for up to 200, the food hall will also house a 22-seat bar with local brews, and seasonal outdoor space capable of sitting a further 80.
