For the second time this year, Minnesota natives Joel and Ethan Coen are being honored in France for their film work.

Yahoo! News reports that the Coens were each made a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters in Paris Wednesday by French Culture Minister Aurelie Filippetti.

According to Yahoo!, Joel Coen remarked at the ceremony that "sometimes life plays jokes on you" -- some "very unfortunate" and some "very fortune."

"This is one of the most fortunate jokes I think that life has played on us," he added.

The honor comes about five months after the brothers won the Grand Prix (runner-up) prize at the Cannes Film Festival in the south of France for their latest film, "Inside Llewyn Davis."

A tale that tracks the struggles of a musician in the folk music scene in New York's Greenwich Village in the early 1960s, "Inside Llewyn Davis" opens in limited release Dec. 6 and wider Dec. 20.

The BBC says the Commander honor is awarded by French government that recognizes people who have "significantly contributed to the enrichment of the French cultural inheritance."

The Coens have been highly regarded in the French film community since the debut of their film "Barton Fink" in 1991, which won the Palme d'Or -- the highest honor at the Cannes Film Festival.
