Minnesota was well-represented at the 71st annual Golden Globes Sunday night in Los Angeles with nominations for performers Barkhad Abdi and Jessica Lange, and filmmakers Bill Pohlad, Joel Coen and Ethan Coen.

The only locally-flavored win came for Pohlad, who co-produced the Best Motion Picture Drama winner "12 Years a Slave."

Pohlad, who was among the cast and crew members who took the stage to celebrate the win, stood behind director Steve McQueen as the filmmaker delivered an acceptance speech on behalf of the production.

Abdi, who lost in the Best Supporting Actor category to Jared Leto for "Dallas Buyers Club," still had his time in the spotlight during the ceremony in the opening monologue with mentions by co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

"Before earning his nomination for his first-ever acting role in 'Captain Phillips,' Barkhad Abdi was working as a limousine driver in Minnesota. There's such a beautiful life lesson here: Sleep with your limo driver tonight before he gets famous," Poehler said, drawing huge laughs and applause from the audience.

Variety has the complete list of winners and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has images from the red carpet.

Cloquet native Lange, who was up for Best Actress in a TV Miniseries or Movie for "American Horror Story: Coven," lost out to Elizabeth Moss for "Top of the Lake."

The Coen brothers were up as co-writers for Best Original Song nominee "Please Mr. Kennedy," and they also co-produced the Best Motion Picture Comedy nominee "Inside Llewyn Davis." The song award went to the members of U2 for their tune from "Mandela: The Long Walk to Freedom," and "American Hustle" won the top motion picture comedy prize.

Chanhassen Dinner Theatres alum Amy Adams also won for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy for "American Hustle."

Adams noted that Sunday was the 15th anniversary of her move out to Los Angeles. Her first film role was in the 1999 Minnesota-made comedy "Drop Dead Gorgeous."
