Winter Storm Watch issued for Friday-Saturday, including the Twin Cities

Heavy wet snow is expected with this storm.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for much of west-central, southern and southeast Minnesota for a powerful snowstorm scheduled to arrive Friday into Saturday.

The National Weather Service is expecting the heaviest snow to fall south of I-94.

"Snowfall amounts of 5 to 9 inches are expected across western and southern Minnesota. There will be a sharp gradient in amounts near I-94, with little or no snow possible over northwest and portions of west central Wisconsin. Any shift would lead to significant forecast changes near this gradient, which includes the Twin Cities metro."

The NWS-Twin Cities tweeted out a simulated radar for Friday into Saturday and it shows heavy snow rolling through southern Minnesota, with the Twin Cities on the northern edge of it all.

A Winter Storm Watch is also in place for counties in west-central and northwest Minnesota, including the cities of Moorhead, Breckenridge, Fergus Falls, and Elbow Lake. The NWS says 4-6 inches are likely within the watch, with localized amounts up to 8 inches.

According to AccuWeather, a thin band stretching from Fargo through west-central, central and southern Minnesota could receive 6-12 inches of snow, while areas just outside the narrow band, including the Twin Cities, are in line for 3-6 inches.
