Here's Johnny! Minnesota Opera bringing 'The Shining' to the stage

The Minnesota Opera hopes to send chills down your spine with its upcoming 2015-2016 season.

Not only with beautiful music, but with the world premiere adaptation of one of the most terrifying, thrilling and disturbing horror films of all times – "The Shining."

The setting

The opera takes place in the infamous Overlook Hotel where Jack and Wendy Torrance, along with their son, battle the evil forces within.

The opera promises to "keep you on the edge of your seat."

Still, City Pages raises a few good questions: Will the twins from the movie show up? Will the lady in room 237 get a solo?

And we wonder, will we get a taste of REDRUM?

You'll have some time to ponder those and imagine up your own. The world premiere of "The Shining" comes to the Ordway in May of 2016. Tickets go on sale this summer.

The cast and crew

According to a news release, baritone Brian Mulligan will play the iconic role of Jake Torrance, alongside soprano Kelly Kaduce as his wife Wendy. And in charge of the suspenseful music and drama – Paul Moravec, a Pulitzer Prize-winning composer.

This will be Moravec's first performance with the Minnesota Orchestra.

Opera King

Minnesota Public Radio says the Shining is part of a series of productions from the New Works Initiative, working to create new operas for the U.S. stage.

However, this isn't the first opera adaptation of a Stephen King novel. In 2013, The San Francisco Opera performed its version of "Dolores Claiborne," a 1992 psychological thriller.
