Hours after Allegiant Airlines announced new flights to Asheville, Palm Beach and Punta Gorda from MSP Airport, Sun Country announced ... almost the exact same thing.
In a bit of media release deja vu, Minnesota-based Sun Country on Tuesday afternoon revealed two new nonstop routes from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport: One to Asheville Regional Airport in North Carolina, the other to Palm Beach International Airport in Florida. Both will launch in October.
Sun Country is also moving up its planned Punta Gorda Airport service to October, earlier than previously scheduled.
Ironically, those are precisely the same destinations touted by Allegiant Air in its announcement this week that it will begin operating out of MSP Airport this October.
So, how do they compare on price?
Tickets to all three cities with Allegiant, a budget airline, are currently $49 one way, though you have to book by June 30 to get those prices.
Sun Country, which has embraced the budget airline model since being purchased by a New York investment group in late 2017, has one-way prices of $49 to the two Florida airports, and $39 to Asheville. The deadline for those prices is July 8.
