The ice fishing haven of Brainerd will get its moment in the spotlight on Tuesday when it features in an HBO show,.
Broadcaster Soledad O'Brien made the trip to frigid central Minnesota last month for the Brainerd Jaycees Annual Ice Fishing Extravaganza.
The segment will feature on Tuesday's episode of "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel," which will be broadcast at 9 p.m. Central on Tuesday.
The Brainerd Jaycees has been held ever year since 1991 and describes itself as the "world’s largest charitable ice fishing tournament." It attracts more than 10,000 ice fishing enthusiasts every year to Hole in the Day Bay on Gull Lake.
O'Brien, more accustomed to the anchor's desk than the frozen tundra, meets up with local fishing guide Dan Eigen for the segment, a 90-second teaser of which you can watch below courtesy of HBO.
She landed in the Brainerd Lakes area to find out what motivates the thousands of anglers who make the pilgrimage every year to Gull Lake.
While in Minnesota, O'Brien shared the temperature she was enduring with her 938,000 followers on Twitter.
